SALISBURY, N.C. — Police have arrested a teen and charged him in the shooting of a Salisbury High School student.

Officers arrested 17-year-old Da-Jaun Russell at a family member’s house just after 10 p.m. Monday and took him into custody without incident.

Police said he punched and then shot Shaleek Williams after school let out Monday.

The school went into a code red lockdown for nearly an hour afterward.

Russell is in jail on a $250,000 bond.

Police said he is not a student at the school.

Williams, who is a freshman, was released from the hospital Monday evening and is recovering at home.

The school will be operating on a Code Yellow lockdown Tuesday as a precautionary measure and police said they will have extra officers at the school as well.
