Teen Who Shot Officer in the Stomach Faces Several Charges

7648806_GThe teenager charged in the shooting of a Cornelius police officer in the stomach has six charges against him pending, including a first-degree murder charge.

Greyson Auguste-Russell Ferrell, 16, shot Lieutenant James Quattlebaum in the stomach Saturday as Quattlebaum was responding to a domestic disturbance call in the 19000 block of Coachman’s Trace Drive.

Officers at the scene returned fire to Ferrell who was hit, but was not injured seriously because he was wearing a bulletproof vest, according to police.

Police said Quattlebaum was taken to Carolinas Medical Center and is expected to fully recover.

Ferrell was also charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury.

He also received charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a handgun by a minor, and possession of marijuana of up to half an ounce.
