Teenager In Custody After Shooting Injured Two

SHELBY, N.C. — A Shelby teenager is charged in a Tuesday night shooting that injured two people, according to the Shelby Police Department.

Deandre Momta Benjamin, 18, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a stolen firearm, according to a news release from the police department.

He is in the Cleveland County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond as an investigation continues.

Shelby Police responded to a call about a shooting on Tuesday night.  Once on the scene they found a 20-year-old with gunshot wounds to his head and leg and a 16-year-old with a gunshot wound to his knee.

The teen with wounds to his head and leg was listed in stable condition Wednesday morning, according to police, and the teen whose knee was injured was treated and released from Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Benjamin was located a short time after the incident and taken into custody, police said.
