Two people were killed in a boating accident Saturday on Mountain Island Lake near Abernathy Road.
The victims were Jennifer Schmidt, 29, and Daniel Schmidt, 60, of Charlotte. Both had been in Charlotte visiting family.
According to investigators, the victims had been in a boat on the water when it ran into a large rock close to the shore. The boat stopped suddenly sometime between 11pm and midnight.
Two other people involved who had life-threatening injuries were taken to Carolinas Medical Center. It is unclear whether alcohol was a factor or if anyone was wearing life vests.
