UNCC Free Safety Among 3 Hurt in House Party Shooting

Three people were shot after a fight at a house party in Charlotte early Sunday morning. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police received a shots-fired call at a home on Harland Street, which is near Brookshire Boulevard. Officers arrived on scene about 2:30 and found signs that a gun had been fired.

Police discovered a victim of the shooting in a vehicle parked nearby. The victim was transported to Carolinas Medical Center. The other two victims of the shooting, who are also both college football players, made it to Presbyterian Hospital soon after the incident.

One of those victims was identified by a UNCC spokesperson as Prince Mayela, the school’s free safety. Mayela is in stable condition after being shot in the hip.

The other player that was shot was identified by an Appalachian State University spokesperson as Tashion Singleton. Singleton is a defensive lineman for ASU and a former high school teammate of Prince Mayela.
The identity of the third shooting victim has not been released. As of Sunday evening, CMPD had not announced any suspects or arrests in the case.
