Authorities in Union County have arrested a local middle school teacher and DSS worker for solicitation of a child after the man sent inappropriate text messages to a juvenile.
Thirty-one year-old Raymond Douglas Nixon is on staff at the Union County Department of Social Services and also teaches school at Parkwood Middle School. In addition, Nixon coaches sports for Parkwood Middle School and Union Academy.
According to police, Nixon is a part-time employee at a local group home. He allegedly sent the text messages to a minor who lives in that group home. Detectives with the Monroe Police Department opened an investigation into the matter in late December of 2012. Nixon was arrested and charged with solicitation of child by computer or certain other electronic devices to commit an unlawful sex act on February 22nd. Pending the outcome of his case, Nixon has been placed on paid suspension from Parkwood Middle School.
Nixon was given a $5,000 unsecured bond and was released from jail. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 20th.
