CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police were busy with with a number of complaints during Fourth of July celebrations in uptown Charlotte.
Officers said they arrested a total of eight people in Center City – three adults and five young people.
They face a variety of charges, including possession of marijuana, assault on an officer, impeding traffic and disorderly conduct.
The most dangerous incident happened on College Street near uptown, where a woman waiting to get into a bar was struck by a stray bullet. Police believe someone fired a round into the air.
Authorities said they got more than 30 calls about gunshots being fired Thursday night.
“It’s against the law to fire a weapon in the city limits, and there’s a reason for that, and that reason is because the round has to go somewhere,” said Capt. Mike Campagna of Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
