USPS Assists In A Shelby Drug Arrest

Thanks to the United States Post Office, a woman was arrested on drug-related charges after authorities intercepted a suspicious package that was addressed and delivered to a Shelby home.

Audrey Ellen Adams, 29, faces charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

United States Postal Inspectors alerted the Shelby Police Department after handling what they deemed a “suspicious package”.  The package was addressed to Ms. Adams and being sent to her home address.

Officers executed a search warrant on the residence and confiscated the delivered package containing marijuana.  Ms. Adams was then taken into custody.

Cocaine and additional marijuana was also confiscated from Adams’ residence.

Possession of marijuana alone is a just misdemeanor.  However, using the US Postal Service to transport or receive it is far more serious as Postal Laws are Federal laws.  No word on charges yet but she could be facing charges that include Mail Fraud (Abuse of Postal Services), trafficking and possession under Federal Statute.

Ms. Adams is currently in the Cleveland County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond.
