The Gaston County Police Department is seeking a woman who tried to use a counterfeit $20 bill on Friday, Jan 11.

Surveillance videos from the Kingsway No. 21 located at 3615 Dallas-Cherryville Highway show the clerk marking the bill then showing it to another clerk at the store, police said.

The clerk told the woman the bill was counterfeit, so the woman pulled a real $10 bill from her wallet and handed it to the clerk to pay for her items, police said.

The woman is white, has auburn hair, and was wearing a light blue jacket.

According to police, she left the store in a silver Chevrolet Malibu on Dallas-Cherryville Highway, headed toward Cherryville.

Police said counterfeit bills have been passed before in Lincoln and Gaston County and in Cherryville and Dallas.

Police ask anyone with information about the woman to call CrimeStoppers at 704-861-8000 or the Gaston County Police Department at 704-866-3320.
