Woman Crashed Into Crane, Died After Police Chase

Hickory PoliceHICKORY, N.C. – A woman was killed after she crashed her car into a crane during an overnight police chase in Hickory.

Hickory police said a woman was pulled over around 11 p.m. for suspicion of driving under the influence on U.S. 70 and 4th Street Drive SW.

The officer asked her to turn off the car and step out, but police said she sped off  leading the officer on a brief chase before losing control of her vehicle and crashing into a crane at a construction site on Highway 70.

The woman died at the scene, according to police. At the time of the crash, no workers were in the construction zone and work had stopped for the day.

Police have not yet released the identity of the woman killed in the accident. Long View and Hickory police departments are investigating the incident.
