An autopsy conducted on the woman killed by her estranged boyfriend on Monday showed she was strangled to death.
Police found Rebecca Ann Jones, 23, dead in an apartment on Dapple Court belonging to her longtime boyfriend and the person who killed her, 26-year-old Justin Hakeem Walker.
After strangling Jones, Walker, a Marine Corps reservist and former Gastonia resident, went to a gun range in Wilmington and shot himself in the head around 2:30 p.m. on Monday. He had left a note near his body directing police to Jones’ body in his apartment and confessing to the crime.
According to the autopsy, Jones also suffered blunt-force trauma. Investigators determined the incident happened at some point between noon and 2:15 p.m., according to Wilmington Police Department Detective Lee Odham.
