22-year-old Kaylan Whiteside pleaded guilty to attempted murder and burglary in the shooting of Wayne Whiteside, Kaylan’s grandfather, in his home outside of Rock Hill in August 2014.

Wayne Whiteside survived the attack after he fired shots back. He is a Vietnam War veteran.

Wolfgang Liewald was the shooter in the plot. He was sentenced to prison for 17 years in May.

43-year-old Ben Patrick Smith was also charged in the scheme and is still in jail pending a trial.

Wayne Whiteside was charged in 2005 with lewd act on a child and pleaded no contest to assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. He was sentenced to probation of five years with a sentence of 10 years in prison that had been suspended, court records show.

During the court proceedings, Wayne Whiteside’s other family members had also testified that he molested them as a child.
