York Police Uncover Marijuana and Crack Cocaine From Traffic Stop

Weekend Traffic StopYORK York police to recovered a large amount of drugs in a routine traffic stop this week.

Around 8:30 p.m. Monday, a patrol officer pulled over a silver Ford truck on Black Highway near Wellington Square after the driver, Warren Omaza Matthews, 26, reportedly crossed the center line several times. The officer said he noticed an open container of alcohol in the center console while questioning the Matthews.

When the officer asked Matthews to step out of the car and walk back toward his patrol car, the driver instead pulled out a backpack and took off running.

The suspect ran around Wellington Square and into the woods, before he was caught when he reached a fence. He became compliant after being threatened with a taser.

Officers reportedly located Matthews’s book bag nearby with around two pounds of marijuana and 61.5 grams of crack cocaine inside. They also reportedly found over $2,000 in cash the driver was carrying in a fast-food bag in his pants pocket.

Matthews was sent to the Moss Justice Center to be held awaiting warrants for drug possession, as well as ticketing for the open container and crossing the center line.
